“The manic revelation is the state where artists create,” says Pokey. “I got to the point in writing these songs where I felt like a house on fire that just kept burning.” Manic Revelations is the name of his new album, a new direction in many ways, but really a culmination of where he's been headed this last decade of working hard at his craft. Get to know this great artist more when he stops by to speak with Martin Anderson on Monday morning, following his Sunday night show at The Grey Eagle in Asheville.

KEVIN SPEARS Live Thursday, June 22nd at 11am

Jun 15, 2017

The kalimba is a tiny African box-like instrument you hold in your hands and pluck with your fingers. It is amazing the variety of sounds that Asheville's Kevin Spears can get out of it, especially with the loop effects he adds to his impressive mastery of it. Also amazing is the roster of artists he was played with: Futureman, Victor Wooten, Lizz Wright, India.Arie, Col. Bruce Hampton, Toubab Krewe, Arrested Development... "KalimbaMan" is part of the lineup of this year's Asheville Percussion Festival, June 26th-July 2th.
