MerleFest 25—The Experience of a Lifetime
Thanks to my WNCW membership renewal, an unexpected stroke of luck, and WNCW’s generosity, two Californians with WNC roots in our hearts and two Asheville area natives are still feeling the glow of this most amazing festival.
We all had “future plans” to go to MerleFest one of these days, plans that may not have been realized without the four Platinum passes. Beth says she felt 30 years younger after being a part of Sam Bush’s Friday night jam and was thrilled to attend every Kruger Brothers performance. The festival reminded Wayne of the beauty of live music and its importance for the soul. He replayed the music in his head for days afterward. Ian sums it up, “A grand old time!” As for me, those four days are among the best times of my life. I loved seeing old favorites, well known groups and talented young new groups …Doc Watson, of course, Peter Rowan and Nina Gerber, Pete and Joan Wernick, Steep Canyon Rangers and Red June, to mention only a few.
The sense of community among the musicians, festival audiences and volunteers was remarkable!
I applaud MerleFest’s philosophy, “celebration of ‘traditional plus’ music” and WNCW’s commitment as a public radio station to keeping real radio alive, providing music that I enjoy, that nourishes my spirit and keeps me connected to my family roots in Western North Carolina.
Thank you, WNCW and MerleFest!
