A Vermonter raised by folk musician parents, banjoist/guitarist/fiddler Sam Amidon has a deep background in various folk traditions, but is making a name for himself through his innovative blending of these styles with free jazz and indie-rock. We fell in love with his album of last year, Lily-O, which features guitarist Bill Frisell and Icelandic producer Valgeir Sigurdsson, with some modern interpretations of old traditional tunes. Scotty Robertson talks with Sam Tuesday afternoon before a show at The Mothlight in West Asheville, and two big Knoxville concerts on Saturday.
