Colin Meloy and his tight band of Oregon mates have teamed up with producer Tucker Martine again, for this their 7th studio album. The reviews for it seem to be mixed: on one hand, it's a little less heady and esoteric than their previous, more thematic, more bookish releases, making this more a collection of radio-ready songs that stand on their own (14 songs in all on this longer-than-average one). On the other hand, Meloy is less adventurous and innovative in his songwriting, leaving less for you to sink your intellectual teeth into, and fewer songs that are destined to stand the test of time. ...Or will they?
