Thursday Night the 4th between 9pm and Midnight: JIM LAUDERDALE - I'm a Song

With five albums in the last two years, including three with Grateful Dead songwriter Robert Hunter and one with the great Buddy Miller, and over twenty altogether ranging from straight-ahead bluegrass to stripped down solo acoustic guitar work, it can be hard to keep up with Americana's most prolific songwriter.  So here's the one album you need to focus on: I'm a Song.  It's Lauderdale doing what he does best: channeling George Jones, collaborating with Al Perkins, Kenny Vaughn, Lee Ann Womack, and the aforementioned songwriters, for 20 gems, all of them great.  It's straight up honky-tonk country, but don't expect to hear it much on commercial country radio -- he's too talented for that.  His home is on stations like ours, which also happens to be just a few miles from where he was born and grew up (Statesville and Due West, respectively.)  Yes, it's a great starting point for your immersion into this prolific artist's repertoire, and a contender for your Top 10 list of WNCW releases at the end of the year.
