Morning Edition on Thursday, July 25: Our State Magazine's Annual 'Southern Issue'

The August issue of Our State magazine takes a look at the things that make North Carolina southern. It features grits, tobacco barns, screen doors, kudzu, swamps, Cheerwine, and Rulfton - otherwise known as Rutherfordton, NC - the county seat of Rutherford County.

The issue hits the newsstands soon, but I spoke with Editor-In-Chief Elizabeth Hudson, as well as Rutherfordton native-turned-author Susan Kelly about this special annual issue, as well as Susan's story about growing up in Rutherfordton.  It turns out, Rutherfordton is like thousands of other small towns in this state - and I suspect other states, too.

Don't miss this nostalgic discussion of the times that were to air on Thursday morning during Morning Edition.
