Asheville has grown to become known as a trailblazer in the making of beer, wine and distilled spirits, as well as the slow food movement and sustainability. On Saturday, August 25, Asheville Wine and Food Festival 2012 will showcase the best in food and drink offered in Asheville and surrounding areas.

I recently spoke with Bob Bowles, Executive Director and Founder of the festival, about the importance of Asheville in leading the way in the use of local and sustainable foods, grown fresh for use by Asheville and surrounding areas. Local chefs use these ingredients to make unbelievably, delicious food.

The beer and distilled spirits now being produced in Asheville are also made with sustainability and freshness in mind. These beers and distilled spirits also make flavorful beverages that are based on freshness, using local ingredients in season.

During this interview, Bowles talks about the afternoon of fun, food, and drink, as well as music and fun contests with themes in keeping with food and spirits.  Tune in to hear what this annual fund-raiser to benefit a local non-profit organization has in store this year.
