Two weeks ago we featured English Folk Rock legends Fairport Convention for your Spindale Cycle. This time it's Irish legends Planxty. While not exactly Celtic Rock, Planxty definitely put a modern stamp on the traditional music of their home turf. Christy Moore, whose birthday we celebrate on Wednesday, is joined by Andy Irvine, Donal Lunny, Liam O'Flynn, and Chieftain and Bothy Band member Matt Molloy for this legendary lineup from 1979. The album of traditional reels, jigs and songs ends on a lively and surprising Bulgarian note -- just one example of the virtuosity these lads possessed.
