We celebrate one of our country's best flatpicking guitarist's birthdays Monday night with this live recording from 1976. The Chattanooga native has backed John Hartford, Bob Dylan, Tony Rice, and other greats over years with an easy-going blend of bluegrass, country, and folk. If you're an aspiring flatpicker yourself, your jaw will hit the floor when you hear him blaze through some of these: "Nine Pound Hammer", "John Hardy", and "Arkansas Traveler" are a few of the highlights. He whips out his fiddle for a couple numbers too, and Nancy Blake joins him for some as well.
