This month marks the 30th anniversary of R.E.M.'s first full-length release, Murmur. Though they were already getting notoriety in some college radio circles, and certainly the Athens, GA scene, Murmur was a great leap forward in establishing not only their sound but their national reputation: Rolling Stone Magazine listed it as the best album of 1983 (yes, topping Michael Jackson's Thriller and The Police's Synchronicity.) It kicks off with a re-recording of their 1981 single "Radio Free Europe", and includes "Talk About the Passion", "Sitting Still", and other classic tunes from Stipe, Mills, Buck, & Berry.
