Monday Night the 8th at 8pm -- JOHN LENNON - Imagine

On September 9th, 1971, John Lennon released his second official solo album (following the previous year's Plastic Ono Band).  In many ways, it has stood the test of time as his definitive post-Beatles release.  Autobiographical, confessional, eclectic, contrary... The subject matter and production embody these themes and the many moods of Lennon.  In addition to the obvious love songs to Yoko, there's the scathing rebuke of Paul in "How Do You Sleep?", political jabs with "Gimme Some Truth", and the antiwar song "I Don't Wanna Be a Soldier".  But the most timeless and classic of all is the title track, which just may be the single greatest single from any of the former Fab Four. It certainly was his most successful single, despite its controversial disparagement of religion, capitalism, and patriotism. A perfect example of the many complex paradoxes that continue to define the man himself.
