Monday Night the 3rd at 8pm: CREAM - Disraeli Gears

WNCW was sad to hear of the passing of Jack Bruce on October 25th. The bassist, singer, and songwriter can be found on a variety of recordings these past 50 years, including Alexis Korner, Frank Zappa, and his own band. But he will forever be remembered most as one third of the blues-based heavy rock power trio Cream, with Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker. This second album from the short-lived band marked a move away from the blues and into more psychedelic territory, but the strength of their playing, and the songs themselves, help it to transcend well beyond 1967. It kicks off with the classic "Strange Brew", and then launches into such Bruce-penned gems as "Sunshine of Your Love", "Tales of Brave Ulysses", and "Swlabr". We'll fill out the hour with other tunes from Cream, including perhaps some of the individuals' own recordings. Baker, for one, released an impressive jazz album this year called Why?, likely to make some Top 10 lists around here.
