Monday Night the 15th at 8pm -- JANIS IAN - Between the Lines

Recently included in Rolling Stone magazine's list of "40 Albums Baby Boomers Loved that Millennials Don't Know", Ian's 1975 album was a platinum-selling chart-topping success, thanks to the hit single "At Seventeen".  No song speaks so directly to the challenges of a girl struggling with her teenage years better than this song, which was no doubt a lifesaver to countless teens who heard it on Top 40 stations across the country -- not to mention throughout Europe and even Israel -- and discovered they were not alone.  (Ian performed a wonderful version of "At Seventeen" in WNCW's Studio B back in 2001, and we'll be including it in our 25th Anniversary edition of Crowd Around the Mic this fall.) Between the Lines is certainly more than just this one great song though; Ian explores assorted dark and challenging topics in songs like "From Me to You" and "In the Winter", though they are delivered with wonderfully warm arrangements and an impressive blend of jazz, blues, and pop sensibilities.  Rediscover Janis Ian's second album Monday night at 8.  And if you are compelled to learn more of her fascinating story, I highly recommend her autobiography, Society's Child.
