ME on Tuesday, May 28: 39TH BIENNIAL CONFERENCE OF THE APPALACHIAN TRAIL CONSERVANCY

The Appalachian Trail remains one of the most iconic and beautiful places in the United States, covering 2,180 miles from Georgia to Maine, with a good portion of it going through our backyard. It was actually begun in the early 1900s, and even now continues to grow.

As a hiking trail, there is none better. You can hike as far as you want and many 'enthusiastic' - read 'crazy' - hikers have gone from one end to the other, which can take six months if you take it easy. And, one really adventurous hiker has gone more than once from one end to the other as fast as she can and has the record for doing it faster than anyone.

On July 19th through July 26th, the Biennial Conference of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy meets for a fun-filled, action-packed week of fun for the entire family. The conference will take place at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee and is filled with all kinds of events and workshops for kids and adults. There will be hikes, music, fellowship and much, much more.

If you haven't planned your summer vacation yet, tune in on Tuesday, April 28th during Morning Edition to hear about this great week.
