Hosts Reflect on the Music of 2016

WNCW's 2016 Top 100 Countdown will be December 28 and 29 during the daytime music mix from 9am to 6pm.

Program Director, Joe Kendrick, has been talking with many of our hosts to look back on some favorite releases and music happenings of 2016.  Tune into Morning Edition throughout the coming weeks to hear these interviews.  Listen to the full interviews below; we will post more after they air.

Friday 11/18: Mary Hughes hosts WNCW’s Local Color program Sunday nights from 7 to 9pm (as well as filling in on Morning Edition, the weekday music mix, and shooting and editing our Studio B videos!), and she details some of her favorite regional releases of 2016 in this interview. She also talks about how the national spotlight shone on the scene here, and about how people are now primed for the myriad sounds that our area has to offer.

We got a seat in class with the Professor for a conversation about some of the best soul, funk, Afro-Beat and dancefloor jazz of the year in this conversation with WNCW’s Joe Kendrick. In addition to some of the year’s favorites, Scotty expounds on what goes into making each episode of The Rhythm Theorem, and opportunities to get your groove on in a live setting every Tuesday night In Asheville at the Funk Jam.

As part of WNCW’s series of interviews with hosts highlighting some favorite albums and happenings of 2016, Joe Kendrick sat with Mountain Mornings host Jasmin Melton to get her take on some of her favorite releases from Mountain Mornings as well as other shows she hosts occasionally, like the Cosmic American Music Show. She also touches on one of her favorite music memories of the year, when she emceed at the Jam In The Trees festival last summer.
