When your mom is June Carter Cash, your dad is Carl Smith, your stepdad is Johnny Cash, etc., you are bound to have both the the genetic predisposition and the pressure to follow in your family's footsteps as a musician. Carlene Carter has been doing so since the late '70's, and made a wonderful return to the scene with this year's release of Carter Girl. It's been a Top 10 record on folk and Americana charts, and we'll hear more about it when she joins us live Friday morning. She performs Friday night in Asheville and Saturday in Bristol, both shows with Jim Lauderdale! Historical footnote: she'll join us 87 years to the day after the Carter Family's first recordings in Bristol, TN, which is referred to by many as the "Big Bang of Country Music".
