David Dye (World Cafe) Interview with Joe Kendrick

WNCW’s Joe Kendrick interviews David Dye after the World Café visited North Carolina late in February for their Sense of Place series spotlighting the cities of Asheville, Charlotte and the Triangle. The World Café’s Sense of Place NC will air their Asheville portion of the visit March 28th through April 1st from 6-8 p.m. on WNCW, which also hosted David Dye for an interview with Program Director Joe Kendrick as part of the show. Artists from western North Carolina including Steep Canyon Rangers, River Whyless, Tyler Ramsey, The Honeycutters, The Get Right Band and the Jon Stickley Trio performed live at the Grey Eagle and Echo Mountain Recording in Asheville to be featured on the broadcasts. The Sense of Place series has focused on countries like Ireland, Sweden and Brazil, and cities like Los Angeles, Memphis, New Orleans and Detroit. After North Carolina, the World Café plans a Sense of Place visit to Australia.

Joe Kendrick grew up far off in the woods in rural Stanfield, NC, where he acquired his first Sony Walkman, listened to both AM and FM radio from Charlotte, went to Nascar races at Charlotte Motor Speedway, attended a small Baptist church, read Rolling Stone, subscribed to cassette clubs, and played one very forgettable season of high school football. From there, Joe studied Journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was able to fulfill his dream of being a disc jockey at WXYC. He volunteered at WNCW soon after graduation.
