Monday, May 28th at 8pm: DOC WATSON - My Dear Old Southern Home

It's probably fair to say there would be no WNCW if not for the creativity, virtuosity, and success of this humble gentleman from nearby Deep Gap, NC.  The seamless blend of folk, blues, bluegrass, and mountain music that is Doc Watson's trademark is captured on this 1991 album, in good company with Jack Lawrence, Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush, T. Michael Coleman, & others.

Friday, June 1st at 3pm: JONATHAN SCALES FOURCHESTRA

We've really enjoyed following Asheville's Jonathan Scales since he formed his Fourchestra in '07.  This ain't your cruise ship's steel pan sound: picture Bela Fleck, Thelonious Monk, or maybe even Mozart on the Caribbean instruments, with a great 3-piece band following his lead.  They play Bristol, Asheville, Charlotte, & Brevard this month.

Wednesday, May 30th at 2pm: STEVE KIMOCK

Whether jamming with Zero, Bruce Hornsby, The Other Ones, Rhythm Devils, Ratdog, Phil & Friends, or with his own band, guitarist Steve Kimock dials it in whenever he's on stage.  His latest tour includes giants Bernie Worrell, Andy Hess, and Wally Ingram among others backing him up.  They play Asheville's Grey Eagle Wednesday night, and Kimock joins us in Studio B that afternoon with, at the very least, his guitar.

You know all those lawsuits now pending around the country charging that the Obama administration's rule requiring most health insurance plans to offer no-cost contraception is a violation of religious freedom?
