Raised in the Midwest on the blues of Howlin' Wolf and Robert Johnson as well as folks like Van Morrison and Leonard Cohen, Cory Chisel is one of those new singer/songwriters with an old soul -- the kind we love here at WNCW.
Cory visits with Stina Sieg just past 1pm before he and The Wandering Sons play Asheville Friday night.
He was born in San Antonio, but has been one of Austin's favorite sons for many years now. Raised on jazz, Latin, and early rock, he fell head over heels for the punk scene. It's always a treat when Alejandro Escovedo plays in the WNCW area, and Roland Dierauf will visit with him in the 3 O'clock hour on Monday. He performs in Asheville Tuesday night.
As he enters his 40th year as a solo artist, John Hiatt sounds like he's still having an awful lot of fun writing songs and fronting a band.
Mystic Pinball is much more electric, lively, and rough around the edges than last year's Dirty Jeans & Mudslide Hymns, though they share the same producer (Kevin Shirley). We'll play all the tunes from it throughout your Thursday night mix.
