Only one day a year is called World Aids Day, but until this disease is eradicated, perhaps every day should be World Aids Day. For now, that's not going to happen. However, the Western North Carolina Aids Project has been commemorating World Aids Day for a week, and activities will continue through December 3. This week I spoke with Pam Seikman about what WNCAP is doing to mark this saddest of days for people all over the world. Tune in to see what you can do to help fight this cruel disease.
Writer Barbara Kingsolver is known for her novels, essays and poems that often deal with social and environmental justice. Her latest book, "Flight Behavior," deals with one of the most divisive issues of the day: climate change. She will be discussing her novel, and its implications, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28. Winfield has launched a web series called "Quest for Greater" which follows three farmers on their journey for a better and more sustainable food crop.
The North Carolina Mountains are beautiful, but they're not just pretty to look at; they are incredible for anyone who wants to get outside and enjoy them. The Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy is a land trust that works in WNC - mainly in Henderson, Rutherford, Transylvania, Polk and Buncombe counties. The Conservancy has just released a new version of its popular program to get people out the house and outside exploring the lands that are being conserved. The program is called the White House Squirrel Hiking Challenge 2.0.
