Blending traditional music of Mali with a variety of American styles, Toubab Krewe returns to WNCW in advance of their July 3rd and 4th sets at their 2nd annual Carnavalito Festival in Black Mountain.

Herd of 'em? One of WNCW listeners' favorite bands returns to Studio B for another live set. This time the eclectic band of zydeco, reggae, old-time, country, and killer jams has brand new songs from "Tonight, Tomorrow, and Yesterday", which will be released 6/18. Heck they even have a video for one of them! They play the Blue Ridge BBQ Festival in Tryon on Saturday.

Marshall "Tall Girl" Chapman: One of Spartanburg's greatest exports, one of Nashville's finest songwriters, and a terrific author, too (Do yourself a favor and check out Goodbye Little Rock and Roller, They Came To Nashville, and regular articles in Garden & Gun among other publications.) She plays a hometown concert Friday night in support of her latest album, released this past week. What does her friend and fellow Nashville icon Rodney Crowell say about it?

Ask Bonnie Raitt, Bill Berry (R.E.M.), or Chuck Leavell (Rolling Stones, Allman Brothers Band), and they'll tell you their favorite contemporary Southern songwriter may well be Randall Bramblett. After working closely with Steve Winwood (16 years!), Widespread Panic, Gregg Allman, Levon Helm, Gov't Mule and others all this time, he's incorporated a surprising array of styles into his own work. Many people are calling his new album The Bright Spots (New West Records) among his strongest works yet. Some of us here at WNCW can't argue with that.

You may know Aoife O'Donovan as the vocalist for Crooked Still, or her recent work with The Goat Rodeo Sessions (Chris Thile, Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, & Stuart Duncan.) She recently released a solo album with producer Tucker Martine. Tune in for a live session from her as she performs and talks about some of these new songs, many of which resemble some of the various folk traditions in which she was raised.

When Underhill Rose last visited us, it was singer-songwriters Eleanor Underhill and Molly Rose Reed. Since then, bassist Salley Williamson has become an official member of the group, and they have recently recorded an album's worth of new songs -- which will be officially released Friday night in Asheville. Tune in for live versons of songs from "Something Real".

Guitarist Charles Hedgepath plays just about every night in Greenville (OK not every night, but he's playing there Thursday night this week, and Friday night in Brevard.) He also covers just about every genre of music you can think of, from jazz to folk to funk to country (he also recorded one of our absolute favorite Christmas albums a few years back!) He's bringing his band in, and will talk about upcoming projects with The Work, The Bad Popes, and tales of jamming with The Dark Star Jubillee with Matt Reynolds and Rob Bar
