Jonathan Tunes In From Seattle, WA

I grew up in Spartanburg so Appalachia is in my blood. I first discovered WNCW while going to school in Clemson. I just found it by chance while flipping through stations. I've been in love ever since. I really can’t listen to any other radio station. Only WNCW understands my musical needs. In 2006 I moved to Seattle where I got an office job, and while I despise sitting behind a desk, on the bright side I am able to listen to you guys every day. Specifically, I make sure I catch Roland from noon to 3pm west coast time (3-6 EST).

Edward's Story of Finding, Tuning In To, and Supporting WNCW

When I moved to Morganton, NC, in May 1993, I had never heard of Public Radio. My uncle turned on Car Talk the first Saturday I was there and said, "these guys are great"!  Before long, I was playing it at work and the folks would always comment on, "what's Edward playing on NPR now?". But, nearly everyday they would find something they liked or were at least amused by. I bought a FM only Walkman and was soon waking up with Wanda Lu and the ARC crowd every weekday morning during my morning dog walk. Of course, I became a contributor and even got a couple of those chain sawed bears!

Fred Found WNCW While Radio Surfing And Continues To Tune In Online

Discovering WNCW on my radio dial was the best "find" I had made in years.

While traveling to Western North Carolina from New England on business, I was surfing the stations looking for something to listen to, other than my well worn and over listened to CD's. WNCW Spindale exploded out from my dashboard with the best in Saturday afternoon Bluegrass "favorites" and from that point the adventure began. This is going back to what must have been the beginning years, as I am only able to date it to some 20 plus years ago.

Michael Tunes Into WNCW Because...

I have listened to WNCW for about as long as it's been on the air. I had listened to the lower end of the dial due to not really liking radio "personalities", their corny rambling and lack of musical knowledge. Once I found WNCW, it has not been changed on my truck radio. I do admit listening to WWOZ out of New Orleans online frequently when I first come home from work, but given the choice, WNCW is by far the best. Thank You.

Living And Working To The Music and News On WNCW

As a loyal member for many years, I listen all day at work and Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.

In 1989 my husband climbed on top of our two story bike shop building to put up an antenna just to hear WNCW all day.  We also raised 3 kids on WNCW.  Two live in West Asheville, one is a musician in Florida, and all three have great taste in music.

How BJ Leiderman First Tuned Into WNCW...And Why He Is Still Listening

I was traveling to Asheville to visit my old summer camp in Hendersonville. I was tuning through the FM dial when I stopped at a song that blew my mind and that I thought sounded very Beatlesque.

When I heard your station break I was stunned I was getting an Asheville station, as I had just recently crossed over the Virginia-North Carolina line. Turns out I was getting the feed from one of your repeater antennas! Very cool!

Susan's Story Of Why She Tunes Into WNCW

In the mid 1980's I received a survey in the mail about public radio and if I thought it would be a welcomed addition to local radio. It asked my musical tastes, news interests etc. I was very excited about the prospect of local public radio. There was a great music scene developing in the area and the timing was perfect. Several months passed, maybe a year?? and then one day I found it! WNCW was on the air!! I think I saw something in the paper about it so I caught it on it's first week and it's been at the #1 station on my dial ever since.

WNCW Is My Constant Companion...

Whether I am traveling for work out of state (and listening via the iPhone app or streaming from my Macbook in the hotel) or working from the home office, WNCW is always playing at some point during the day.  I have been exposed to such a diverse palate of music because of WNCW.  I would bet a third of my CD collection and electronic tunes are a direct result of hearing it on WNCW first.
