Morning Edition: The Growing Sustainable Agriculture Movement
On Monday, February 20th and Wednesday, February 22nd, two different stories about the growing sustainable agriculture movment in Rutherford County, NC. On Monday, a conversation with Rich Davis of Plateful, CSA, a group of five farms that offer shares of their farms in exchange for fresh produce and meats weekly. On Wednesday, a conversation with Lee Cathcart about his efforts to reach children before they become too connected to technology, and get them outside where they can learn about the old ways of gardening and a good work ethic. Cathcart's Children's Equestrian Ministry is willing to travel anywhere to talk to groups and organizations about sustainable gardening and about making sure that the old ways don't get lost. He spoke recently in Forest City where Grahamtown is beginning a square foot garden that will offer families in Rutherford County an opportunity to rent a plot for their own vegetables at a very low price.
