Dennis Jones
Dennis was born in Boiling Springs NC, raised in the #1 Township (home of Junie and near Horace and Earl Scruggs) he comes from a family musical background and grew up with Bluegrass and Country & Western as the soundtrack surrounded by the artists who made it. He’s worked in professional audio engineering for 30+ years with companies providing production support worldwide to the biggest acts in the business.
Dennis started as a volunteer at the station in the fall of 1993 answering phones and working in the music library during Saturday’s Bluegrass show “Goin’ Across The Mountain”. Before long WNCW hired him to apply his talents as an audio engineer to Studio-B where he began mixing/recording the live to air music sessions/interviews and providing production, engineering and mixing skills to the CD fundraising series “Crowd Around the Mic” and “Goin’ Across The Mountain-Live”.
He first filled in as host of “Goin’ Across The Mountain” in 1995 and soon was a regular alternating DJ. He became host /producer/programmer of Sunday mornings “The Gospel Truth” in the fall of 1996 and he says he considers it his greatest and grandest privilege in his life. After expanded Bluegrass hours in 2001, he became co-host. In 2002 Dennis became producer/programmer of GATM, the 8 hour Flagship program. In 2003 Dennis took the role of Technical Director/Chief Operator for the station overseeing engineering at the studios in Spindale and at the transmitter/translator sites.
Dennis is a member of The American Engineering Society (AES), a professional Broadcast member of The International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) and member of The Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America (SPBGMA). Dennis has been nominated for Bluegrass DJ of the year IBMA in 2002 and by SPBGMA in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. Dennis is proud that WNCW has been nominated for Bluegrass Radio Station of the year by SPBGMA in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. Dennis lives in Cliffside N.C. where enjoys his family, Church, hot rod cars & trucks, collecting vintage microphones and photography.
