JEANNE ROBERTSON WILL HEADLINE AT RUTHERFORD REGIONAL HEALTH FOUNDATION'S ANNUAL 'WOMEN TOGETHER' EVENT
This year's 'Women Together' event is a unique and funny fund-raising event put together by women, showcasing women and benefiting women. Jill Miracle, executive director of the Regional Health Foundation, says, "Each year, Rutherford Regional Health Foundation strives to offer a unique event for the enjoyment of our women..."
As one half of the Indigo Girls, Amy Ray has been one of the most prominent forces in Southern folk-rock, women's music, and well, music in general since she and Emily first started in the '80's. Amy started the not-for-profit Daemon Records in 1990, with a mission to support local artists at a grassroots level, to teach young artists how to further their own careers, and to keep the independent spirit alive. She's released 5 solo records since 2000, and Joe Kendrick will talk with her about all this and more in Studio B. She plays Charlotte Tuesday nigh
John Driskell Hopkins has been enjoying great success with the Zac Brown Band out of Atlanta these past few years, but has also recently recorded an album with Haywood County bluegrass hand Balsam Range. They play a live session in Studio B this Thursday morning, before their Asheville show Friday night.
Since 1994, Solas (a Gaelic word for "light") has been breathing new life into traditional Irish music. Their latest project Shamrock City is an interesting spotlight on a turn-of-the-century Montana town that was powered by Irish-American immigrants. Seamus Egan, Winifred Horan, and the rest of the band return to Studio B for a live radio ceilidh with Joe Kendrick. They play Thursday evening in Charlotte and Friday evening in Asheville.
Fiddler extraordinaire Casey Driessen has been involved in various projects this year: in addition to a recent presentation at TedX Asheville, Casey has kicked off his "Fiddle/Sticks: The Drummer Project" collaboration, which followed his "Singularity Tour" mix of his signature percussive fiddle style with digital loops and effects. He talks and plays with Scotty Robertson in Studio B before his evening performance in Asheville with Carrie Rodriguez.
Ben Harper is back, this time with harmonica blues great Charlie Musselwhite, and on the soulful Stax record label! No Depression magazine calls it "the first great album of 2013...I mean, it’s Ben Harper. It’s Charlie Musselwhite. Do the math." We'll add it all up together with the rest of our Thursday night mix on the last day of the first month.
