The first thing to say about this book is that it is intended to be read by MATURE AUDIENCES to adult language and adult situations.
The second thing to say about this book is that it is the truth and it is a wonderfully funny and touchingly sad at the same time. Sharon L. Hicks says she always intended to tell the story of her mother's mental illness. In "How Do You Grab A Naked Lady?", Hicks tells it all in unflinching detail. And, by telling the story of her mother, she ends up telling her own story.
We are excited to welcome one of our favorite bands, Blue Highway, back to Studio B for a great hour of live bluegrass. Since they first graced a stage on New Year's Eve 1994, these same five guys - Tim Stafford, Rob Ickes, Shawn Lane, Wayne Taylor, and Jason Burleson - have been at the top of their game. Tune in for a great session with Dennis Jones before they head to concerts in Asheville Friday night and Knoxville Saturday night.
Join host Joe Kendrick Wednesday just after one p.m. for an interview with AC Entertainment's Ashley Capps who previews the upcoming Mountain Oasis Electronic Music Summit in Asheville NC this October. Capps, who also founded Bonnaroo, talks about how he attracted big names like Trent Reznor as well as got Neutral Milk Hotel to perform for the first time in 15 years and more. Recorded on 5/3/13, this is an edited version of the full conversation which is available for podcast.
The Howlin' Brothers come to us from Ithaca, NY by way of Nashville, TN (on their way to shows in Charlotte, Greenville, and Asheville this weekend.) The trio plays a mashup of bluegrass, blues, a touch of jazz, and old-time vaudeville on a variety of stringband instruments plus harmonica. Warren Haynes takes part in their new release Howl, which was produced by Brendan Benson of the Raconteurs.
The Gourds' frontman Kev Russell has had a side project for a few years now, to help provide an outlet for his huge well of material. But to throw in a little curveball, he ends Gulf Coast Museum with a ukulele version of "If You Don't Know Me By Now". Featuring a revolving lineup of Austin talent backing him up, this is Shinyribs' second album ("Poor Peoples' Store" became a WNCW hit from their first.)
