Having wrapped up a full year of touring on the road (in a Chevy van paid for by Kickstarter fans), Asheville's Nikki Talley and her husband Jason Sharp return home, stopping by Studio B for another fun session featuring her sweet Appalachian voice and roots. Their most recent release is Live At The Altamont Theatre recorded in Asheville. They'll be on 8 area stages in the next 11 days: Asheville, Brevard, Saluda, Greenville, & Morganton.
This 5-piece band is made up of veterans of James Brown's Band, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, The Neville Brothers Band, The Radiators, & Outformation. They wowed us when they last came to WNCW (and showed up on Crowd Around the Mic Vol. 16). Join us in welcoming The New Orleans Suspects back before they head to their show in Black Mountain!
Raised on the Brooklyn streets, a cook for a hospital for the mentally ill and numerous other locales...Charles Bradley's compelling story is the subject of a recent documentary film (Soul of America). His second release on Daptone Records is our featured album this Thursday night. Bradley takes the sounds of Stax, Muscle Shoals, and James Brown in particular, and moves it forward with a level of passion and genuineness not surpassed by anyone.
Shane Pruitt, Freddie Vanderford, Brandon Turner and Matthew Knights are four well-known figures in the blues, roots, and rock music scene of the SC Upstate for the past few years, and they have now united to form a quartet of some smokin' hot blues, Mill Billy Blues. They've got a new release out, and we'll hear 'em live before they play with the Sparkletones at The Chapman Cultural Center on Saturday.
