The 1967 album Mixed Bag was his first on the folk-oriented Verve Forecast label, and includes a dynamic variety of styles and moods, including the anti-war anthem "Handsome Johnny" (which he co-wrote with future actor Louis Gossett, Jr.!

Indigo Girl Amy Ray has a new release that is a bit of a career first for her -- an album exploring her Southern musical roots growing up listening to country and roots music. Recorded last spring at Echo Mountain Studio in Asheville, with guests Justin Vernon, Heather McEntire, Susan Tedeschi, Kelly Hogan, and members of Megafaun, the songs on the acoustic-based Goodnight Tender were written over the course of the last decade or so. It will be released on 1/28, and Ray has a CD release show in West Asheville on Friday the 24th (Isis).

We've got what looks to be a fun session this Thursday when this band from Asheville visits us for the first time. With a triple-entendre of a name like theirs, and a great grasp of the turn-of-the-(20th)-Century blues that they specialize in,these guys are sure to please, as they have done already at MerleFest, various clubs, and various street corners these past few years.
