Asheville's trio The Swayback Sisters returns to Studio B Thursday morning. Laura Blackley, Mary Ellen Davis, and Cary Fridley unite their solo talents to create a blend of country soul, Appalachian folk, and acoustic blues. They share the stage with our fellow friends The Lazybirds in Asheville on Thursday the 30th, followed by a string of shows in Black Mountain, Boone, Hendersonville, and other locales.

Hailing from Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains, The Steel Wheels return to our area yet again, with their four-part harmonies (inspired by their shared Mennonite heritage), reverence for Appalachian roots, and wonderful community spirit. They'll play live versions of songs from their latest release "No More Rain" before heading to Union Grove and Charlotte for shows there.

The last time Hayes Carll visited us, he brought his band for a killer session of tunes from his KMAG YOYO release (a Top 20 album pick among WNCW listeners, and the #1 song for the Americana Music Association.) This time he's no doubt got some great new songs to unveil for us and you. Tune in to this Texas bard who fits right in alongside John Prine, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Todd Snider, ...and Jack Kerouac. He rolls into the area just in time for a visit and an Asheville show.

One of our favorite regional bands returns to Studio B on Wednesday, with new songs from a forthcoming third album (that they're still hoping to raise enough funds for at last check!) Amanda Anne Platt, Pete James, and the rest of The Honeycutters are rising stars in Americana and great music in general. They play not one but two shows at Isis in Asheville later this week.

Singer/songwriter/guitarist/former violinist Annie Lynch first met and formed The Beekeepers while at the Berklee College of Music around 2006, and soon began drawing a devoted following around Boston. Their recent album My Bonneville is a tasteful blend of Americana and indie-rock. They play Asheville Saturday night. “Lynch’s understated vocals and songwriting are reminiscent of Jolie Holland or the Be Good Tanyas…” -The Boston Globe.

We are excited to welcome one of our favorite bands, Blue Highway, back to Studio B for a great hour of live bluegrass. Since they first graced a stage on New Year's Eve 1994, these same five guys - Tim Stafford, Rob Ickes, Shawn Lane, Wayne Taylor, and Jason Burleson - have been at the top of their game. Tune in for a great session with Dennis Jones before they head to concerts in Asheville Friday night and Knoxville Saturday night.

The Howlin' Brothers come to us from Ithaca, NY by way of Nashville, TN (on their way to shows in Charlotte, Greenville, and Asheville this weekend.) The trio plays a mashup of bluegrass, blues, a touch of jazz, and old-time vaudeville on a variety of stringband instruments plus harmonica. Warren Haynes takes part in their new release Howl, which was produced by Brendan Benson of the Raconteurs.
